Description
West Coast Forest Products of Arlington, Washington is pleased to announce that they are locating a state-of-the-art, high production sawmill to the White Mountain region from the Washington area.  President Steve Shriver worked in the area over ten years ago, and indicates Ive been wanting to bring modern sawmilling equipment to my former home, and believe that we can contribute to efforts at  forest restoration in the region.  The expansion of thinning projects in the region has created an opportunity for a firm such as ours to provide an economic engine that will allow more thinning, at a reduced cost for the federal and state governments.  Thinning the forests and utilizing the wood has a huge community benefit: reduced slash burning, controlled burns, protection of communities from wildfire, air and water quality improvement, and adding  high paying jobs for the area.

West Coast is headquartered in Washington, where they operate other facilities that have  continued to operate at a profit when most major lumber manufacturers have been posting huge losses and closing up plants.  The mill they are relocating was located in Washington, and is being moved to the area immediately.  With the cooperation of Catalyst Paper Company they are storing the mill equipment at the paper companys site in Snowflake, pending the acquisition of land and improvements for installation.  The mill they will open is manufactured by USNR Manufacturing in Woodland, Washington, and features state of the art Curve saw optimization, scanning technology, and has a capacity to mill 25 to 100 million board feet of lumber per year.  This technology has only recently been employed in sawing smaller logs in the Northwest, and bringing this to the White Mountains will help to improve the economics of forest thinning.

The firm has a National distribution network, and markets value-added wood products throughout the United States.  According to Shriver, the White Mountain mill will employ up to 100 employees, with an average wage of over $20 per hour.  These are highly skilled, productive jobs and we are pleased to be able to expand into the area at a time when jobs are very much needed for the region.
