What is AWFC

The Association of Western Forestry Clubs (AWFC) was conceived by a group of Montana Forestry Club members in the fall of 1937. Its organization was in response to the existing national organization of forestry clubs' perceived lack of benefit to its western members. Because it was organized on a national level, the annual meetings were quite spread out and infrequent.

The first AWFC Conclave was held at the University of Montana in 1939 and was attended by the University of Montana, Colorado State, University of Idaho, U of I (Southern Branch), Washington State and Oregon State. Conclave has continued to be held annually except for an interruption during World War II. The logging sports competitions were first undertaken in 1953 followed by sawmill and logging operation tours in 1957. As we prepare for the 58th annual conclave, the AWFC has 17 full and 6 associate member schools throughout the Western United States.

If your student organization is interested in becoming an AWFC member, the Oregon State Forestry Club wants to help. Any university or college west of the 100th meridian that grants a degree in forestry or a related field is eligible for full membership. Any similar school which does not grant a forestry degree may still join as an associate member and participate in Conclave.
